In the Drawing|Painting|Printmaking IV course students expand their visual communications capacities, deepen their knowledge and experience of 2-dimensional art materials/methods, and continue to practice creative habits that will serve them in all aspects of their lives. This course is designed to build on the strong theoretical framework and practical skills developed in previous art electives; applying those same concepts & skills to working within a focused set of materials and ideas. A major goal this year is for students to develop a personally meaningful body of work we call their Concentration Portfolio. In so doing students continue to develop creative confidence, and expand their capacity to explore expressive themes over a sustained period of time. Sketchbooks are an essential tool in this endeavor and students are required to work in theirs regularly. In sketchbooks students practice creative habits – constantly noting inspirations; pondering and manipulating ideas; experimenting with materials; and documenting their world. Written reflections reinforce this thoughtful process.
