HERE. The exam follows the format of all previous tests, and takes place MONDAY, June 9 in the afternoon. It includes 100 questions on the written piece, PART 1. And a drawing practicum, PART 2. BE THE ART CRITIC – Like the summer Museum Experience assignment . . Visit a museum/gallery. Select a work of art that’s compelling to you. Get to know the piece by drawing it (in your sketchbook), make additional notes describing your observations, thoughts, & impressions. Write a 3-4 page essay about your experience that includes the following: FORMAT: the essay should be written in 12 pt Times New Roman typeface, one-‐inch margins, and double-‐spaced. Include a cover page with: your name, the course title – Foundations of Art & Design, the museum/gallery and the date of your visit CRITERIA: 1.Identify the name and address of the Museum/Gallery you visited 2.Identify the artist, title, medium, and date the work was made 3.Provide approximate dimensions (in inches) of the work – always list the dimensions of a work of art in the order of height by width, when a two dimensional work and height by width by depth, when a sculpture 4.Describe the work of art in great detail. Provide such an extensive description that someone unfamiliar with it could easily find it in the museum. 5.Notice the two works closest to it (left & right). Describe them in detail. Make an educated guess about why the curator positioned them in this way, next to “your” piece. 6.What do you think the artist is expressing, or trying to relay to the viewer, in this work? 7.Why did you select this particular work of art? And if you observed this piece with friends/family describe the discussion it provoked among you.

**For this Chapter, I am adding a QUIZ assessment to the NOTES assessment I've required for each Chapter to this point. I strongly encourage, but do not require, that you submit notes (visual and written) as is your successful habit to this point in the semester. The assessment grades for this chapter will be (1) a QUIZ grade, quiz done in-class on the day notes are due AND (2) a NOTES grade, notes presented in-class on the day notes are due. If you choose not to submit NOTES for a grade, then your QUIZ grade will count twice. Please let me know if you have any questions in this regard.
