Due 10/31       SKETCHBOOK ENTRY
For-Arts-Sake double page spread
- experiment, and most importantly, have fun!

Due 10/24

  SKETCHBOOK ENTRY
Continue experimenting with your Flair pen and ink washes.  In support of your in-studio Morphing project,
FILL at least 2 pages drawing fragments/objects/textures in support of your project.

Due 10/17       SKETCHBOOK ENTRY
FILL at least 2 pages of your SB with drawings of objects (no pencil drawings required) using black Flair pen and/or fine-point Sharpie, and washes.
You're not making finished drawings here, the idea is to draw a whole bunch of different things - and in-so-doing experiment with all different kinds of marks and weights of marks, washes,
the full range of values and textures that you observe.

Due 10/10       SKETCHBOOK ENTRY
Revisit your still-life pencil drawing from last week.
Prop-open the page in your sketchbook and stand back from your drawing.  Notice where you could adjust values - work back into your drawing to improve it.

Arrange/draw a still-life using your black Flair pen.
Start by defining a 4 x 6" picture plane, centered in your page.  Choose from among the objects around you - on your desk at home, objects on your kitchen table, a pile of clothing, books on a shelf, toys in a toy box, tools, flowers in the garden, etc.  Arrange objects in an interesting way, and adjust lighting for dramatic effect - a single light source (spot light) is best.  Using
pencil, lightly sketch your composition in terms of lines/shapes/proportions.  Then build values and textures using your Flair pen.  This should be a finished drawing, not a sketch, with full range of values and textures to convey what you see.

Due 9/30       SKETCHBOOK ENTRY
Revisit your self-portrait from last week.
Prop-open the page in your sketchbook and stand back from your drawing.  Notice where you could adjust values - work back into your drawing to improve it.

Arrange/draw a still-life.
Start by defining a 5 x 7" picture plane, and draw a DETAILED composition of objects. This should be a finished drawing, not a sketch, with full range of values and textures to convey what you see.
For inspiration review these selected works  STILL-LIFE DRAWINGS

Due 9/23       SKETCHBOOK ENTRY
Taking inspiration from Van Gogh's drawings - you'll draw a self-portrait.   Look in a mirror for reference (no photographs please).  Consciously choose a viewing angle, an interesting expression, and a comfortable situation - as this will take quite a bit of time, and you'll want to "return" to this several times (over a few days) in order to successfully complete your drawing.  Keep in mind the idea of mark-making that follows (expresses) the form you are depicting.   Van Gogh was a master of this.
I suggest you google "van gogh drawings portraits" for inspiration.

Due 9/18          1)  LOOK online at Van Gogh's landscape drawings - notice how he constructs his composition, how he uses                                                 lines/marks to build values/textures/depth

                         2)  complete your upside-down POSTMAN drawing and bring to class in your sketchbook
