Due 5/20 (initial sketch/layout) 5/27 (finished drawing)
For-Arts-Sake: A view from my window [a 2 week assignment]
Format: using a ruler, define your picture plane with a light pencil line to 7.5" x 9.5" (horizontal or vertical). Choose a comfortable place to work - where you can observe both the interior of a room and exterior landscape. Using the principles of Linear Perspective and Atmospheric Perspective develop a finished drawing that conveys your knowledge/awareness of both "families" of perspective. You have two weeks to work on this piece . . as it will take you multiple sittings to complete this drawing to the best of your abilities - and using all the techniques we've practices over the semester together to convey form and space. We will review your initial sketch/idea this week (5/20) and we will present [do a gallery walk] of your finished drawings in class the following week (5/27).

Due 5/13
For-Arts-Sake: Practice drawing objects using 2-point Linear Perspective techniques
Format: follow the sequence of steps we practiced in class - start with a horizon line that covers BOTH left and right hand page in your sketchbook (a double-page spread); on the horizon place 2 vanishing points; start each shape/form with a leading edge; draw converging lines from top and bottom, to both left and right vanishing points; drop your verticals all parallel to your leading edge, etc. Draw at least 6 objects - at least 2 of them overlapping - at least 2 of them abutting - at least one leading edge should overlap the horizon line. Using a single light source, add values to the planes (sides) to reveal to the viewer - your light source. Then add cast shadows for each object.

Due 2/25
For-Arts-Sake: Consciously - use all those tools/strategies you found helpful in the school art studio this week. Give yourself the advantages that will work in your favor. Similar to your practice this week in class, allow yourself SEVERAL sittings . . experienced, and knowing, that each time we return to a "challenge" we bring new insights that make the job more successful.
